Roomscapes @ 7 Tide: Displays by Design Director Judy Whalen in Expanded Space

Since opening in Boston’s Seaport District in the spring of 2016, 7 Tide has become the go-to resource for architects, designers and discerning homeowners. The expansive showroom is a collaboration between Clarke, the New England distributors of Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, and Marvin Windows and Doors. It provides a venue in which homeowners can “test drive” appliances in working kitchen displays and see full-scale models of Marvin’s products.

As 7 Tide’s popularity has exploded, they made plans to expand the showroom space, adding a Kohler section this past fall. We were so honored to be asked to create two displays in the new space.

Judy Whalen, Roomscapes Cabinetry and Design Center’s design director, created the two displays: a kitchen and a full-service working bar. Judy flexed her creative muscles in devising vastly different looks for each vignette. “Nantucket Kitchen,” a classic, quintessential New England inspired cottage like kitchen, and “Gothic Barn,” a full-service bar with a cutting-edge contemporary vibe.coastal kitchen design

In the kitchen, Judy paired Wood-Mode custom cabinetry in crisp classic white faux-shiplap with bold Aegean blue accent cabinets flanking the cooking zone and floating drawers on the island. Natural plain swan white oak countertops and a ladder-style open shelf on island add to the cottage feel along with the industrial iron Ralph Lauren sconces, and iron cabinet pulls from Richelieu.kitchen design ideas

The bar was created to serve as a small functional home bar at the back wall. It features two complementary 30” Sub-Zero wine refrigeration units flanking a gorgeous Native Trails concrete farm sink, and an industrial bronze Hubbardton Forge pendent fixture. The spirit of the large event-party bar flows into the central gathering space with the same Wood-Mode custom cabinetry with rough-sawn euro oak veneer cabinets in a matte foundry finish as the smaller back wall bar.  Finishing touches include mercury mirror cabinet backs, oxidized stainless-steel floating shelves, and cast bronze Schaub pulls making this bar a dream for any homeowner who loves to entertain.home entertaining

A stunning pendant light with a Sputnik vibe, on the left in the image below, immediately draws the eye to Judy’s urban design. On the right, the custom oxidized stainless-steel brackets Judy used to support the floating countertop coordinate with the floating shelves across the window.Untitled design (89)
